Citric acid treatment of chronic non-healing ulcers in surgically excised cases of lateral malleolus bursitis

چکیده
*Corresponding author INTRODUCTION Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa. Repeated pressure over the lateral malleolar areas for long periods is one of the most important reasons for inflammation leading to chronic bursitis. Close proximity of the heel pad to the lateral malleolar area makes them more vulnerable and creates a limb-threatening situation, which may carry the risk of amputation. Surgical excision and split-skin grafting is the commonly used treatment in India for infected lateral malleolar bursitis1. Surgical excision followed by antibiotic treatment and local wound care is the most commonly used treatment, especially in developing countries like India. Unfortunately, in the majority of the cases this treatment does not work effectively and results in a chronic wound.

In platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, various growth factors and cytokines released the α-granules contained in platelets after activation can potentially enhance wound healing by delivering. We report a patient in whom treatment with PRP, prepared using a syringe-centrifugation-system PRP kit (KYOCERA Medical PRP Kit), for a fistula following bursitis of the lateral malleolus, which could not...
متن کاملChronic Open Infective Lateral Malleolus Bursitis Management Using Local Rotational Flap
BACKGROUND Using a sinus tarsi rotational flap is an uncommon approach to treating chronic open infective lateral malleolus bursitis. METHODS We treated eight patients, including six males, using this approach. First, we debrided all the infected tissues and used a negative pressure wound closure system where needed. After acute infection had been controlled, the local rotational flap was use...

Phenytoin (PHT), a drug in clinical use for over fifty years as an anticonvulsant, has heen reported to promote the healing of skin and soft tissue wounds, ulcers and second degree burns. We treated 19 patients with war-related missile wounds and 6 with chronic, non-healing (previously treated at least for.') months with antibiotics and betadine or acetic acid dressing) civilian ulcers wit...
متن کاملSimple and Effective Approach for Treating Non-healing Ulcers After a Snakebite .
An attempt has been made to develop a simple and effective approach for the treatment of snakebite ulcers using citric acid as the sole antimicrobial agent. Fifty-two (52) cases of snakebite ulcers not responding to conventional antibiotic therapy and local wound care were investigated for culture and susceptibility of swabs collected from the ulcers. Staphylococcus aureus (30.69%) an...
